Biographical notes:

John Beeson was born in England and emigrated to the United States in 1830. In 1834 he settled in Illinois, where he worked as a farmer and was a supporter of temperance and abolition. Beeson emigrated to Oregon in 1853, and as a result of the Rogue River Indian War he became an advocate for the rights of American Indians. He returned to the East in 1856, where he continued to work for Indian rights. Eli K. Price was a lawyer and law reformer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
