Biographical notes:

Sir William John Macleay (1820-1891), politician, patron of science and pastoralist, was a member of the New South Wales Parliament from 1855 until his death. He was a founding member of the Entomological Society of NSW and first president of the Linnean Society of NSW.

William Sharp MAcleay (1792-1865), the cousin of William John Macleay, was a naturalist and Fellow of The Royal Society who arrived in Sydney in 1839.
