Biographical notes:

The Alonzo L. McDonald Family Chair on the Life and Teachings of Jesus and Their Impact on Culture is supported by gifts from the McDonald Agape Foundation, chaired by Alonzo L. McDonald. McDonald was a longtime trustee of Emory University. The McDonald Agape Foundation "supports lectures and other public presentations that deal creatively and imaginatively with the person and teachings of Jesus as they shape and form culture." The full title of the McDonald Chair has varied from year. In 2001, the chair was held by historian Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan, who delivered the McDonald Lectures on Christ and Culture in October of that year. The McDonald Chair for the Study of Jesus in Culture was held by the Honorable John T. Noonan, Jr. in 2002, and by composer Alice Parker in 2003. Wayne A. Meeks was the 2004 McDonald Visiting Distinguished Professor in the Study of the Person and Teachings of Jesus. In 2005-2006, Emory law professor John Witte held the Alonzo L. McDonald Family Chair on the Life and Teachings of Jesus and their Impact on Culture
