Fiske, Joseph, 1752-1837
Biographical notes:
Joseph Fiske, Jr. was born in Lexington, Mass., Dec. 25, 1752 and died there on Sept. 25, 1837. His father and grandfather were also physicians. In 1777, Fiske was commissioned a surgeon in Col. Joseph Voses's regiment and became a full surgeon in 1779. He attended the surrenders of Gen. Burgoyne and Cornwallis. He served in the army until 1784 and then commence his private practice. He was a member of the Society of Cincinnati and the Massachusetts Medical Society. Accompanying background research identified at least twenty pateints who were Minutemen that fought under Capt. John Parker at Lexington Common in 1775. After the war, nearly one third of Parker's men became Fiske's patients, including Parker himself.
