American Federation of Grain Millers. Local 6 (Clinton, Iowa)
Biographical notes:
Organized as Federal Labor Union No. 20878 in 1937, Local 6 was chartered by the American Federation of Grain Millers in 1949. The Local represented workers at the Clinton Corn Processing Company which made corn starch and other corn products. Relations with the company were always contentious and there were strikes nearly every time the contract came up for renewal. The largest and bitterest strike was in 1979-1980 during which the company tried to break the union and Local 6 was eventually decertified by the votes of strike breakers in an NLRB election.
