Eli Alvo Helmick (1863-1945), a native of Quaker Point, Ind., graduated from West Point in 1888. During his military career, he participated in the Wounded Knee Campaign; was inspector of the Rural Guard at Santiago, Cuba; participated in the campaign against the Moro Indians in the Philippines; served in the Inspector General's office in Chicago; commanded the 27th Infantry on border patrol in Mexico; was commander of the 5th Division in France (1918); and after World War I, was appointed Inspector General. He served as Inspector General until his retirement in 1927.
