Biographical notes:
Residents of Litchfield, Conn. Charles Bishop (1791-1871) moved to Litchfield in 1838 and established a farm. He married Mary Bacon (1794-1884) and they had three sons: Theophilus, who died in Saybrook, Conn., at age 26; James, a Thomaston, Conn., clock factory employee and later a florist; and Charles, a prominent Litchfield merchant who co-owned a dry goods firm and was an insurance salesman. Jane Farnsworth Bishop was daughter of Benjamin Farnsworth and Emily Raphel, of Hartford, Conn. Jane's sister, Lucy Farnsworth married Theodore Sedgwick of Litchfield who was dry goods partner of Charles Bishop.
