Hazel Winifred Johnson-Brown was a United States Army nurse who was a 1st lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corps in 1955 and advanced through the ranks to brigadier general in 1979. She was the first black woman to reach the rank of general. Hazel Johnson-Brown served as chief of the Army Nurse Corps from 1979-1983.
