Lumbering firm, operating in the Union River valley in Maine, owned by John Whitcomb, Charles Haynes, and John O. Whitney; originated as a general store in 1863; by 1900 was largest owner of timberland in Hancock and Washington counties. Enterprises included a general store, barrel stave factory, lumber mills, and fleet of schooners which transported the company's goods. In 1929 sold and thereafter operated as Ellsworth Forest Products Corporation.
