Painter of primarily of genre scenes, also some lost cityscapes, and still-lifes; San Francisco, California, and New York, N.Y., after 1887.
The San Francisco earthquake destroyed many of Alexander's paintings and records. He committed suicide in New York on May 15, 1894. Death date also cited as 1895.
