Biographical notes:

Arthur Goss was born in 1866 near Vincennes, Indiana. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture in 1888; Agricultural Chemist degree in 1889; and Master of Science degree in 1895, all from Purdue University. From 1888 to 1892 Goss was assistant to the Indiana State Chemistry, assistant to the Indiana Experiment Station Chemist and assistant in the Indiana Weather Bureau Service. During the summer of 1892, Hiram Hadley, president of New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (Now New Mexico State University), hired Goss as professor of chemistry. He and his wife, Martha, arrived in Las Cruces in the fall of that year. In addition to teaching chemistry, he was chemist in the Agricultural Experiment Station. Goss remained at NMCA & MA until 1903 when he accepted the position of director of the Purdue Experiment Station. He remained in that position until 1917, and retired to his farm near Vincennes, Indiana. Goss died December 26, 1934.
