Osborne, Ralph

Ralph M. Osborne was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 1926. His military career was mainly in the military research and development (R & D) field. During World War II he was assigned in 1942 to the Operations Division and later worked for General Lucius Clay in the (R & D) Division of the Army Service Forces and the staff of General Ben Lear. After the war he became the artillery commander of the 2nd Infantry Division and then helped plan logistical support of the Korean War. In July 1952 he was appointed artillery commander of the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea and in 1953 was the Army member on the United Nations Armistice Commission and was involved with Korean prisoner of war work. After the Korean War, he became artillery commander of the 11th Airborne Division and the XVIII Airborne Corps, Artillery. He then returned to the R & D field at Fort Monroe until 1958 when he was assigned to U.S. Army, Europe to become acting Chief of Staff. Osborne also became deputy commander of the 4th Army and commander of Fort Sam Houston. He retired from military service in 1962.
