Biographical notes:

The Friends Boarding House Association was incorporated in 1877 in Philadelphia to establish a boarding home for Quakers and others. A home was at first operated at 1623 Filbert Street, and in 1894, it moved to 1708 Race Street. The Association was dissolved in 1913; the establishment of a boarding home under the care of the Quarterly Meeting rendered the continuation of the Friends Boarding House unnecessary. The property was transferred to the Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting Committee on Homes for Aged and Infirmed Friends, and the remaining funds were transferred to the Philadelphia Young Friends Association.
