Biographical notes:

Lantzsch was born on Aug. 7, 1923 in Germany. He emigrated to the U.S. at the age of four with his mother and brother. After service as an Army medical corps master sergeant with the Third Army, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Lantzsch was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He earned a B.A. from Central Michigan University (1948), and a M.A. from the University of Michigan (1950). Lantzsch was also a Ph. D. candidate at Wayne State University. He taught as a chemistry, biology and physics high school teacher in Houghton Lake (Mich.) in 1948. From 1949 to 1958 Lantzsch taught chemistry at Ecorse High School. In 1958 he was promoted to Assist. Superintendent of Schools for Instruction for one year. In 1967 Lantzsch was named as Superintendent of Trenton public schools for three years. From 1971 to 1988 he served as Superintendenet of Gerrish-Higgins School District in Roscommon (Mich.), where he developed exemplary, award winning schools. Lantzsch also wrote a number of journal articles and edited two editions of Educational Resources Down River. Lantzsch was involved in a number professional activities and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. Lantzsch died on Dec. 11, 2001 and was survived by his wife, Dora, two sons, a daughter, three grandchildren, and two siblings. (Information from the collection.).
