André Marty was born in 1886. He was a naval engineer who participated in the Black Sea revolt in 1919. Marty served as a Communist Deputy and was imprisoned in 1939 for five years. He also served as secretary of the Communist International and was a member of the French Communist Party Politbureau and Secretariat until he was expelled in 1952. He died in 1956.
