Biographical notes:
John Clay MacKowen, an Irish American, was a planter and physician of Jackson, Louisiana. MacKowen owned a property called Blue Grotto in Anacapri, Italy. His father, John McKowen (1812-1871), was a general merchant of Jackson, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.
