Biographical notes:

The Commission was created in May 1964 in response to the call of the President's Commission on the Status of Women to the states to appoint their own commissioners. It was extended through a series of executive orders until June 30, 1979, when it was replaced by an advisory position designated the Women and Family Initiatives Office within Governor Dreyfus' office. Its purpose was to investigate the condition and quality of life of women in Wisconsin in order to effect substantive changes to enable women to fully participate in contemporary society.
