Biographical notes:

Samuel Grant (1705-1784) was apprenticed to Thomas Finch (1669-1736), a successful upholsterer and importer in Boston, Mass. Grant established his own business at the "Crown and Cushion" in Union Street. He served as town selectman between 1747 and 1757 and as town moderator in 1768.
