Biographical notes:

Richard E. Cheney served as chairman of the board of Hill and Knowlton, Inc., an international public relations and public affairs counseling firm, from 1987 to 1991. Cheney joined the firm in 1960 and established a national reputation for providing public relations advice to companies embroiled in corporate crises. He served variously as executive vice-president, member of the policy committee, financial relations director, vice-chairman, and head of Hill and Knowlton's United States division. During Cheney's tenure as chairman, Hill and Knowlton expanded its services in the fields of investor and financial public relations, and provided public relations counseling for law firms, particularly in proxy fights and hostile takeovers.
