Biographical notes:

Raymond Henry Fogler was born in South Hope, Maine in 1892 and died in Exeter, Maine in 1996. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1915. He received a graduate degree from Princeton University in 1917. He began his business career with the W.T. Grant Co. in New York in 1920. In 1932 he joined the Montgomery Ward Co. and was its president when he left to rejoin W.T. Grant in 1940. He retired from W.T. Grant in 1952 and was appointed assistant secretary of the Navy by President Eisenhower in 1953. After leaving Washington in 1956 he continued his devotion to the University of Maine, where he had been an active alumnus since his graduation. His commitment to the University spanned 80 years and he served as president of the Board of Trustees, General Alumni Association, University of Maine Development Council, and the University of Maine Foundation. The library at the University of Maine was named the Raymond H. Fogler Library.
