Dates:
Active 1900
Active 1918

Biographical notes:

In 1900 the Summer School was opened in association with Dartmouth College. The personal project of Director Thomas Worthen, the School was intended for teachers but open to all applicants. In 1902 its courses were approved for college credit. In 1903 it was taken over by the Trustees of Dartmouth College, although they did not assume financial responsability until 1912, and it became an extension of the regular academic year. The School achieved moderate success, but its courses did not meet the full approval of the Dartmouth College faculty, and it was discontinued in 1919.
