Biographical notes:

Cadwallader Jones was son of Richard Jones, an Exeter merchant who settled in Virginia in 1651. In 1673, Cadwallader Jones settled at Rappahannock, and later patented land in Stafford backwoods. He was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel in the Stafford militia in 1680. In November, 1689, he was appointed Governor of the Bahamas, but after conflicts with the proprietors, he took refuge in England, and then returned to Virginia.
