Mira Wilkins attended Radcliffe College (Harvard University) as an undergraduate and received her doctorate in history from Cambridge University in the fall of 1957. She was hired by Allan Nevins in 1957 to conduct research at the Ford Motor Company Archives for a third volume of the history of the Ford Motor Company, entitled Ford, Decline and Rebirth. Subsequently, she received a grant from The Ford Fund to write a book on the history of Ford's international business operations. American Business Abroad, Ford on Six Continents, co-written with Frank Hill, was published in 1964. Wilkins joined Florida International University in 1972 after holding prior positions at Columbia University, Union college, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts. Wilkins research in areas of economic and business history, the world economy, and multinational corporations led to several books and numerous articles and reviews. In 2003, she was preparing the third volume of a history of foreign investment in the United States.
