Biographical notes:
This record group concerns the involvement of the Michigan National Guard in the Flint sit-down strike against General Motors in 1937. A good summary of the events of this disturbance can be found in Michigan history magazine, vol. 26 (1962). Also contained in this record group are papers on the activities of the Michigan State Troops during the uprising at the Sojourner Truth Housing Project in 1942 and the Detroit race riot of 1943. These incidents are reviewed in Michigan history magazine, vol. 53 (1969).
