Biographical notes:

David Horn Johnson (1912-1996) earned his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkley. He served during World War II, and was assigned to the Naval Medical Research Unit 2 that was stationed at Guam, which is where he developed his interests in Asiatic mammals. He published on the mammals of Korea, Nepal, and the Pacific Islands. In 1948, he was a key figure in the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land in northern Australia. He was also a curator at the National Museum of Natural History from 1941 to 1965, serving as head of the Division of Mammals from 1948 to 1965. He died on August 12, 1996.
