Biographical notes:

Sculptor and metal craftsman who specialized in religious art; born in Germany and studied in Berlin, before moving to Palestine (1933-1947) and then teaching for two years at the Bezalel School for Arts and Crafts. After he arrived in San Francisco (1947), he taught at the College of Marin and at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) in Oakland. His artwork has been shown in major museums in the U.S., some of which included artwork done by his sister, pictorial artist Julia Ries. Victor Ries also received numerous commissions from synagogues, temples, and churches throughout the U.S.
