Biographical notes:

Residents of Frederick, Md.; family members represented include: Roger Brooke Taney (1777-1864) was born to a prominent Maryland family and became involved in law and politics at an early age; he served six terms in the Maryland General Assembly and later became Attorney General of Maryland (1827-1831); Pres. Andrew Jackson appointed Taney to several positions, including United States Attorney General (1831-1833), United States Secretary of the Treasury (Acting, 1833-1834), and Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court (1836-1864); while studying law at Dickinson College, Roger Brooke Taney became friends with fellow student Francis Scott Key; in 1806, Taney married Key's sister, Anne Arnold Phebe Charlton Key (1783-1855), at the Key family's Terra Rubra estate in Frederick County, Md.; they had seven children together.
