Biographical notes:

Editorial cartoonist. Edward Daniel Kuekes was born February 2, 1901 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a student at Baldwin-Wallace College, the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He drew for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, 1922-1966 and became chief editorial cartoonist in 1949; he was also cartoonist for the Metro Newspapers, produced cartoon features for United Features Syndicate and was author/illustrator for a few separately published books. Winner of several awards including the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, The National Cartoonists Society Silver T Square Award (1953) and several Freedom Foundation awards.

Edward D. Kuekes (1901-1987) was an American editorial cartoonist.

Ed Kuekes was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 2, 1901. He studied at the Baldwin-Wallace College, the Cleveland Institute of Art, and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He was appointed to President Eisenhower's "People to People" committee and has received awards from the Newspaper Guild, the C.I.T. Fund, the Freedom Fund at Valley Forge, and the National Safety Council. He has been presented with the Baldwin-Wallace Alumni Merit Award, the National Cartoonists Society Silver T-Square Award, the United States Presidential Prayer Award, the Christopher Award, the United States Treasury Award, the Salvation Army Centennial Award, and in 1953 the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. He is the creator of Funny Fables and the cartoon Alice in Wonderland for United Features Syndicate, and has lectured to various art groups on the subject, "So you can't draw a straight line, either."
