Biographical notes:

Lawyer, Politician, and U.S. Circuit Judge.

Bryan began practicing law in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1895. The older brother of Florida Senator William James Bryan, he was appointed Senator of Florida in 1911 when the legislature failed to elect a Senator and subsequently won election. He lost his re-election in 1916 and in 1917 he declined Woodrow Wilson's appointment as Governor General of the Philippine Islands. In 1920 he became a judge of the 5th Judicial Circuit until his death in 1935.
