Biographical notes:

The Office of Hospital Public Relations was created at University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1967. The Office was responsible for providing information about the people, events, and activities of University Hospital to the news media, the public, and the employees of University Hospital, a unit of the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In 1978, the Office of Hospital Public Relations was renamed the Office of Informtion Coordinator. One of the original responsibilities of the Hospital Public Relations Office was the publication of the Beacon, a monthly magazine for University Hospital employees. John L. Wright served as Hospital Information Coordinator from 1967 to 1985. He was succeeded by Hank Black.
