Biographical notes:

The Seufert family came to Oregon from California in 1880.

The first member to arrive was Frank A. Seufert (1853-1929). His younger brother arrived two years later and the family purchased the Whitcomb Fishery and began canning salmon along the Columbia near the Dalles. In 1884 they built their first fish wheel for catching salmon. Fishwheels were later outlawed in 1927. In addition to canning they promoted cherry growing. Early in the 1880s they shipped fruits and vegetables as well as fish by railroad. The company closed in 1954.
