English kinsman of Abraham Motte, a native of South Carolina and son of Jacob Motte (1700-1770). Abraham Motte was a distant relative of Charles Mellish and possibly Alexander Gillon (a South Carolina politician, naval officer, and merchant), whose first wife was the widow Mary Splatt Cripps, daughter of Richard Splatt and Ann Mellish. Ann Mellish was a daughter of a Mr. Mellish of Wiltshire, England.
