Leon B. Kromer was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who served in the following ranks: private, 2nd Michigan National Guard Infantry Regiment; cadet, U.S. Military Academy; 2nd lieutenant, 10th U.S. Cavalry Regiment; 1st lieutenant, 11th U.S. Cavalry Regiment; captain, 10th U.S. Cavalry Regiment; quartermaster, Fort McDowell Recruiting Depot and Fort Keogh Remount Depot; captain, 11th U.S. Cavalry Regiment.
He was a post quartmaster at Fort Oglethorpe and during the Mexican Punitive Expedition; major, 22nd U.S. Cavalry Regiment; lieutenant-colonel, quartermaster and deputy chief-of-staff, 82nd Infantry Division; colonel, G-1, 1st Army; chief, Graves Registration Service; major, G-3, Southern Dept.; lieutenant-colonel, G-1,VIII Corps Area; colonel, G-3 Division, War Dept.; colonel, and faculty member and assistant commandant, Army War College.
His career continued as deputy chief of staff, 1st Army; major-general, chief of cavalry; colonel, Office of the Chief of Cavalry; director, Cavalry Board and commandant of cadets, Norwich Military Academy.
