John Alexander Harvie-Brown

Biographical notes:

John Alexander Harvie-Brown was born in Scotland in 1844. He was educated at Merchiston Castle and the universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge. An ornithologist, he devoted much time to the study of bird migration, serving as a member of the British Association Committee on this subject. Harvie-Brown was also interested in the dispersal and geographical distribution of species, making study visits to northern Norway in 1871, the White Sea in 1872 and the Pechora Valley in 1875. He died in 1916.
