José Carlos Mariátegui (b. June 14, 1894, Moquegua, Peru–d. April 16, 1930, Lima Peru) was a Peruvian intellectual, journalist, political philosopher, and communist. A prolific writer, he is considered one of the most influential Latin American socialists of the 20th century.
