Biographical notes:
Henry Hicky Walsh was born to Simon William Walsh and Martha Hicky, daughter of Philip Hicky of Hope Estate Plantation, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He married Mary R. Gayle, daughter of James Gayle of Pointe Coupee Parish in 1854; received a law degree from University of Louisiana in 1856, and practiced law in Baton Rouge before the Civil War. During the war he served with the Delta Rifles, and later settled in New Orleans to practice law.
