Biographical notes:
Simon Houghton (1737-1814) and Martha Stearns Houghton (1750-1823) resided in Bolton, Mass. Their children included: Timothy (1771-1837), studied law but became a farmer; Simon (1773-1814); Asa (1775-1829), an almanac maker; Jacob (1777-1861), a lawyer and judge; Dinah (1778-1786); Martha (1781-1818); Mary (1784-1818); Samuel S. (1786-1865), a teacher; Daniel E. Stearns (1788-1825), a lawyer; Josiah (1790-1833), a lawyer; and Abigail (1792-1847).
