Biographical notes:

The Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum had engaged in educational efforts of various kinds for many years, but an Education Department was first established in 1991. The Department offers programs aimed at designers, scholars, educators and students. They explore fields ranging from the history of design to contemporary issues in design. The Department also provides assistance to educators in formulating art and design curricula for use from kindergarten to the college level.

Susan Yelavich was appointed Head, Education Department, in 1991. When Yelavich was made Assistant Director for Public Programs in 1994, Dorothy Dunn became Head, serving 1994- .
