RIP - 35E Environmental Defense Fund (Saint Paul, Minn.).
Biographical notes:
Incorporated in 1973, RIP - 35E represented the following neighborhood groups affected by the freeway: the Summit Hill Association, the Ramsey Hill Association, West Seventh Street Federation, and the South Lexington Association. From the early 1920s through the 1970s, various governmental actions had designated Pleasant Avenue in St. Paul as a route to connect Dakota County areas to the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A legal suit in 1972 halted construction of the freeway until the early 1980s, when various governmental agencies and units approved the completion of the project. John E. Diehl was chairman of the organization from 1973 to 1983.
