Professor of English at Pratt Institute.
Knowles was a specialist in Spanish-English literary relations. He investigated the manuscript ANATOMIE OF SPAYNE, 1599 (Ford Abbey Library Ms. #234, formerly Phillips Ms. #12124), including the bibliographical history of the manuscript, its translator, Harye Bedwod, and the author of the original Spanish manuscript, Biud de Haro.
