Lee Judah Ames (1921- ) is an American author and illustrator of books for children. He has worked on animated films for Walt Disney Studios, written magazine comic strips, and illustrated covers for numerous books.

Born in New York City in 1921, Lee J. Ames began drawing and painting in elementary school. After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, he was employed in several occupations, all of which involved art or design. While teaching at a school for the visual arts, he began illustrating children's books. In addition to illustrating many works by other authors, Ames authored and illustrated the famous "Draw 50..." series. He died in 2011.

Lee J. Ames was born January 8, 1921 in New York City. He pursued higher education at Columbia University and began illustrating children's books in 1948. Ames throughout his lifetime has illustrated countless novels with such authors as Jeannette Nolan, Harold McCracken, Alvin and Virginia Silverstein.
