Gideon Lincecum (1793-1874) was a physician, philosopher and naturalist born in Warren County, Georgia. Lincecum first came to Texas on an exploring expedition in January 1835. He moved to Long Point, Texas in 1848. Lincecum was a widely published naturalist and scholar of Choctaw traditions. In 1868, Lincecum moved to Tuxpan, Mexico, to continue his studies. He returned to Texas in 1873 and died at Long Point, Texas in 1874.
