Davis was a cousin of Beverly Rasband Dixon.

Served in the US Marine Corps during World War II from 1944-1946. Davis was assigned to Engineering Squadron 22, Airbase Group 2 in California as an aircraft overhaul inspector. He achieved the rank of corporal.
