Biographical notes:

John Bartram was a prominent 18th century botanist who established a successful botanical garden in Kingsessing, Pensylvania and led numerous expeditions throughout what would become the Eastern United States. His son William was also a prominent botanist; his sons Moses and Isaac were merchants.
