William Jardine was born in 1879. Jardine served in various capacities throughout his career. From 1918 to 1928 he served as President of Kansas State Agricultural College (later Kansas State University). From 1928-1929 Jardine was Secretary of Agriculture of the United States. From 1930-1933 Jardine served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Egypt.

Returning to Kansas, Jardine served as State Treasurer of Kansas. In 1939 he accepted the Presidency of the Municipal University of Wichita (later Wichita State University). Jardine remained at the University until 1949. William Jardine died in 1955.
