Biographical notes:

Evan P. Aurand, born June 10, 1917 in New York, New York, is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and served as a Navy airman during World War II. From 1957 to 1961, Aurand served as Naval Aide to President Eisenhower. During the early 1960s, he was the commander of the U.S.S. Greenwich Bay and the U.S.S. Independence. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1965, and then to Vice Admiral in 1969. Aurand retired from active service in 1972. He died in June 1989.
