Biographical notes:

Sundt (b. December 12, 1926) served with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1974 in the Pacific theater of World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War.

He attained the rank of four-stripe captain, was credited as an expert in the fields of amphibious warfare, mobile logistics support, and intelligence, and wrote several Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps textbooks. He and his wife raised four children, and he retired from duty after thirty years of service. Sundt was an active member of Kiwanis, serving as governor of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Kiwanis District from 1985 to 1986 and elected to the International Board of Trustees. He eventually settled in Fort Atkinson (Wisconsin).
