Pierre de Rigaud de Cavagnal, marquis de Vaudreuil; b. in Canada, Governor of Trois Riviéres (1733-1743); Governor of Louisiana (1743-1755); Governor and Lieutenant General of Canada (1755-1760); following the capitulation to the English (1760), he returned to France where he was tried and subsequently acquitted. Some sources give date of his death as 1765.
