Dean family.
Biographical notes:
Family of Joseph Dean who was born in England and later settled in Philadelphia where he had a textile mill; in 1845 bought a grist mill just outside Newark, Del., which he converted into a woolen mill; family moved to Newark and Joseph's son, William Dean became a partner in Joseph Dean and Son in 1847; after his father's death, William continued to operate the mill and in 1882 it became Dean Woolen Company; mills burned in late 1886 and were not rebuilt. William Dean was also involved in the Kiamensi Woolen Company.
