Preston H. Leslie was govenor of Kentucky from 1871 to 1875. In 1842 Leslie, who was born in Wayne (now Clinton) County, was practicing law in Monroe County.

Preston H. Leslie was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, on March 8, 1819. Leslie was the governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1871 to 1875. President Grover Cleveland appointed Governor Leslie to be the Territorial Governor of Montana from 1887 to 1889 and US District Attorney from 1894 to 1898.
Governor Leslie was married November 11, 1841 to Louisa Black, who died August 19, 1858. On November 17, 1859, Governor Leslie was married to Mary Kuykendall, who died September 3, 1890. Preston Leslie died, in Helena, February 7, 1907.
